2005 “Fore the Children” Golf Classic a Steamy Success

Pristine West Winds Golf Club in New Market, Maryland was the scene of this year’s “Fore the Children” Golf Classic. The August 5th event, the 7th annual, was by far the hottest ever; with temperatures nearing triple digits and high humidity, however, the rising temperatures did not dampen the golfers’ spirits or the drive to raise money for renovations to the sports facility at Novgorod’s Derevyanitsy Boarding School.

This fall, the Novgorod administration will partner with Frank Foundation and other charitable organizations to sponsor the renovations to the sports facility. The Derevyanitsy Boarding School renovations will give 280 orphans at the school the opportunity to develop physically and socially in a safe environment. An additional 4,000 children in the Vilikiy Novgorod region will also benefit from this project. Such a facility will serve as an effective means of aiding in teaching teamwork and promoting positive self-esteem.

Previous “Fore the Children” Golf Classics have centered around creating a maternity ward in Tbilisi, Georgia, providing medical care for orphanages in Stavropol, Russia, offering educational assistance for “graduating” orphans, and treating Tuberculosis in Kazakhstan. Over $300,000 has been raised via the Golf classic to address these pressing issues. This year, spurred by the astounding success rates of U.S. community based sports centers which provide at-risk youth with creative outlets for their energy, the Frank Foundation decided to aid the Novgorod administration’s resolve to be a pioneer in creating such a center in Russia. The tournament generated over $20,000 with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the sports facility.

The Frank Foundation would like to extend thanks to our sponsors and all of those who were able to come out and enjoy the day. Special thanks goes out to the Washington Red Skins Spirit Squad, for keeping the energy up all day. Our sincerest thanks to Diane and Milton Cadenhead, the Cadenhead family, and Mike Kundling for their continuous dedication to the “Fore the Children” Golf Classic’s causes and for their expertise. Thank you all for being part of the 7th annual golf outing and for aiding the Frank Foundation and the Novgorod Department of Education help at least 4,000 children from the region reach their full potentials.
